You’ve nailed it again. But I can’t help feeling absolutely heartbroken that the RSPCA has been reduced to this having been taken over by the dregs in society. I would go one step further and add the RSPCA needs a serious reality check. Paul clearly had to water down his advice because of the “rump factor” within the RSPCA who are using it for their own political furtherance such as Mr May’s frequent outbursts against the Tories whose reputation is riding sky high from saving Britain from the brink of socialist destruction. The RSPCA’s continual tirade against the badger cull makes the public very suspicious that they are hiding something- probably that the governments scientists are very right and they will soon end up having to add another burden on their overladen reputation with the media accusing the RSPCA of not being animal welfare friendly in the least.
So I have had my criticism moment on the RSPCA which upsets me immensely, as a kind and compassionate man. If the war against the badger cull continues very much as that against hunting, how will words and legislation work effectively, even with the law on your side there are insufficient bobbies, hunt monitors and priorities to enforce wishy-washy pieces of legislation we have all witnessed first hand with the impractical hunting act and the negative effects on our wildlife who have suffered horrendously, because of over predation?
I have for some considerable time as a none hunter argued that both sides of a debate need to meet and agree the terms of ceasefire-so to speak. We will never advance animal welfare with good practical workable solutions if we continue to talk about each other instead of too each other. Sometimes a sort of compromise is better than nothing at all. Far from being weak, it commands a position of strength from both sides and more importantly the public, who are becoming bored with whole sorry story.
What the RSPCA would appear to be hiding is the fact that their overtly pro-badger campaign is in fact nothing of the sort. Badgers are, it seems, very susceptible to bovine tuberculosis (bTB) infection indeed, and aren’t very resistant to it at all. This means that every infected badger will eventually die an agonising death from bTB unless road traffic or other misadventure intervenes first.
Badgers also don’t seem to be very good at resisting bTB even when thoroughly vaccinated against it; this is mostly because bTB hides from antibodies behind a waxy cell wall; an antiparasitic immune response is about all that stops it, and animal species have to evolve this tweak to their immune systems over time. Bovine tuberculosis is new to badgers, and they simply do not do this response very much.
So, the deep dark secret of the RSPCA is simple: all their overtly pro-badger, anti-cull campaigning won’t do badgers any good at all, but will conversely condemn hundreds of thousands of these animals to a frankly horrific death. Thus is the RSPCA revealed as cynical organisation putting profit and fundraising above the actual prevention of suffering of animals.
Typical- what is good for the goose clearly isn’t good enough for the RSPCA. They need to learn a thing or two starting with upholding the good reputation of charities in general, who should not be indulged in politics and if they have an argument against hunting, the badger cull or father bloody Christmas – they need to come on here and explain their daft objectives instead of fooling around with misguided fools who couldn’t care less about anything instead of pestering the public with their troublesome, misinformed nonsense. Also, as well, this is a cesspit of their own making?
Mike could you enlighten us with the science behind your claim that the hunting Act has caused over predation on wild animals? Hunting with hounds only ever produced a 6% reduction in overall fox numbers, and hunting and shooting together never made up for the numbers killed on the roads. I would also like to know which particular wild animals are being over predated by foxes now that hunting is against the Law. Fox numbers remain more or less the same year in year out, with the population at around 250,000. Even during the foot and mouth epidemic when hunting was temporarily suspended fox numbers did not increase. You must try to be more discerning in your reading matter, the Beano & CA updates are just fairly tales you know.
Hi Pattie – there have been studies that have shown that fox control can effect other species so it does seem that the theory put around by antis that they are only controlled by food and territories does seem to be false. You should really have a look into predator ecology a little more deeply. I would however agree with you that fox hunting with hounds alone does not have a massive impact on overall numbers nationwide. However combined with shooting, snaring, terrier and lurcher work it most certainly did. I am quite sure however that more foxes are being shot in the wake of the ban – they certainly are around here. In my opinion both shooting and RTAs exert a downward pressure on the fox population which in the absence of these two factors would be somewhat higher. In some areas which are very heavily shot over there are hardly any foxes at all.
Thank you for replying in your usual emotive and somewhat rude mannerism, although I preferred it when we could at least chill out a little more without the insults. You intrigue me on how long someone can bury their head in the sand without coming up for air and claim to know what’s going on. Perhaps you were reading the Bunty – can we do a swap?
You ask how the hunting ban and I included the badger cull, are causing over predation on wild animals and birds, who for some inexplicable reason have been left out of the debate altogether by the opponents of hunting/badger cull. But I have answered that one on numerous occasions and it’s mentioned in my first comment – sorry, but I am going to insist you do some homework and come back to me when you have the courtesy to at least understand the written word and not what you imagined me to have said.
Oscar Wilde is quoted as having said “selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live” ? I found it in the Beano.
Sorry if I came across as being a little abrupt with you, it was never my intention. I have a dislike for people talking down to me.
But there is another reason for revisiting you and that is to help you understand what has been happening since your disappearance, where we are just now and my contribution towards them. You could start with looking up Jim’s CLA Game Fair 2013, Looking forward-looking back, Jamie Foster’s blog, He’s a celebrity ………. get him out of here. Infact, I strongly recommend you go back to where you left off and catch up on everything before wading into the deep end again. xx
Today it is reported in the media that the two guard dogs used to protect Prince William were sadly put down. I also noticed the RSPCA have been remarkably quiet to date over this. If the RSPCA has money to burn setting up a hotline looking for wounded badgers, then why not include wounded deer, foxes, pheasants and concerted effort to rehome the 60,000 stray dogs it destroys annually – can we conclude the RSPCA is playing at politics again ?
[…] instinct has been to try and silence their critics. Copies of the leaked memo have now been removed from James Barrington’s blog by request, although he does not state by whose request. Inevitably, all that this has achieved […]
RSPCA meeting with the Humane Society of the United States, sounds like RSPCA is using the same techniques as the HSUS. People have commited suicide when HSUS marched in and took animals. We wonder why RSPCA meets with HSUS and other animal rights groups at the World Animal Forum each year. If Queen Victoria were alive RSPCA would loose their Royal as she had many, many animals of different spices, I am sure she would not like to see people being persecuted and their beloved animals taken.
Labour reported to repeal the badger cull if (not a dogs chance in hell) it wins the election. This is an infighting political party that hates each other that failed Britain, British farmers and caused immense suffering to badger by letting tb get out of control. What will grommet ( Edd) say if the cull is successful -no doubt the RSPCA or LACS will write that one for him in due cause. Their all full of bullshit with reputations to match.
I seem to remember Mary Creagh, shadow DEFRA minister, saying in an NFU fringe meeting during Labour’s annual conference in 2011 that if the badger cull started under the coalition, it would be continued under Labour if they took power in 2015. Sincerity and knowledge in equal measures.

So much for RSPCA transparency! It appears they don’t even want us to know about the criticisms they make of themselves!

Dear Mr Grant,
A man may fail many times, but he won’t be a failure until he says that someone pushed him ?
Shit, he has?

Is the next series of animal hospital coming from Wandsworth prison?
